Terms of Use

Effective: August 2026

FamilyLock ("the Software") is provided free of charge as a pair of Android applications ("FamilyLock Parent" and "FamilyLock Child"). By downloading, installing, or using the Software, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Software.

1. Who FamilyLock is for

The Software is designed for parents, guardians, and other adults who lawfully control a device — specifically for supervising minors' Android devices that the user owns or is authorized to manage. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right to manage the device on which the Child application is installed.

2. Device Owner role

The Child application must be granted the Android Device Owner role to enforce controls. This is a powerful system privilege. You acknowledge that:

Do not install the Child application on school-, employer-, or government-issued devices unless you have explicit permission to do so.

3. License

Subject to these Terms, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on devices you own or are authorized to manage. You may not reverse-engineer, resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Software except as permitted in writing.

4. No account, no cloud

The Software operates entirely on your local network. It does not create accounts, does not connect to any FamilyLock server, and does not transmit data to us. Because no account exists, you control all data yourself and there is no central service to join or to leave.

5. Use at your own risk

Parental-control software cannot replace direct involvement in your child's digital life. The Software is provided "as is" and "as available," and FamilyLock gives no warranty that it is error-free, that enforcement is always perfect, or that it prevents every unwanted behavior on a supervised device. You use it at your own risk.

6. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FamilyLock shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, content, or functionality arising out of or in connection with the use or inability to use the Software. In no event shall FamilyLock's aggregate liability exceed the amount you paid for the Software (which, because it is free, is zero).

7. Remote lock and wipe

The Parent application exposes remote Lock and Wipe actions. You are solely responsible for triggering these actions and for any consequences, including permanent loss of data on the supervised device. Confirm your target device before performing a wipe.

8. Security and authentication

Communications between the two apps are signed with a key derived from your pairing code. The strength of that protection depends on the secrecy of the pairing code and on the safety of your local network. The Software does not protect against every possible attack; for example, devices on the same network that can observe your traffic may circumvent some protections during setup.

9. Updates

The Software checks this website for updates and may show update banners. Installing updates is optional and at your discretion. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Software or this website at any time without notice.

10. Term and termination

These Terms apply for as long as you use the Software. You may stop using it at any time by uninstalling the applications and, where applicable, clearing the Device Owner role. We may terminate these Terms if you violate them.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The current version is always available on this page with its effective date. Continued use after changes means you accept the revised Terms.

12. Jurisdiction

These Terms are provided to you under the laws of your own country to the extent applicable; where not, general principles of software distribution law apply. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remaining provisions continue in force.
